Straggler
Personality:
Aram is an interesting guy. He is very eccentric but also very brilliant. He does not have too many social skills because he considers himself to be a "loser with no life." He often denigrates himself and is known for that self-deprecation. He can be hard to get along with from his lack of social skills.
Around crowds, he is rather shy and reserved. Despite his lack of social skills or perhaps arising from their lack thereof, he has a decent sense of humor. He is intelligent enough to carry on a conversation about most topics. He also has several major eccentricities (for lack of a better word). He tends to become excited for no particular reason and also talks to himself (perhaps because few actually understand him). For those reasons, some may consider him to be a lunatic.

Chess, Languages, Socialism, Books, Paleontology
Dislikes:
Ignorance, Useless ego and self-promotion, Capitalism, Failure, Azerbaijani people

ON THE OUTSIDE,
[/size]Appearance:
Aram is not a big guy. He is only about 5'3 1/2" tall and is not particularly muscular. He has dark skin typical of many Armenians and eyes so brown that they are almost black. His hair is very dark brown. He is, however, much stronger than what he appears to be. He has several scars that came from shrapnel during the Nagorno-Karabakh War.
THE PAST,
History:
Aram was born in a little village in the southern part of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast. The village had both large Armenian and also large Azerbaijani communities. When the Nagorno-Karabakh War broke out between the newly-independent republics of Armenia and Azerbaijan, for about the first half year, the village was untouched. When he was about five and a half years old, both forces fought over the town. The Azeris were actually victorious and seized control of the town. Aram was caught in the crossfire and was actually wounded by shrapnel from one of the two sides.
The Azerbaijani military then sought to cleanse the town of all the Armenians. Aram witnessed several of his best friends and also one of his older sisters raped and then killed by Azeri forces. From that point onward, he developed a hatred toward Azerbaijanis as a whole.
Despite the setback, his family were forced to flee their home. They decided to move to Kutaisi in the Republic of Georgia. There, he quickly picked up Georgian and Russian. He took upon himself the goal of self-education and went to the local library to read every day. Those visits also aided in improving his memory. Also to support his family, he took a job as a street sweeper. Later, he became interested in linguistics. Even without much of a formal education, he applied to Kutaisi University. His talent allowed him much notoriety (at least in Georgia and some of the surrounding countries). He was granted a cruise to present one of his papers. That cruise, of course, was the ill-fated cruise that would cast him out on an island.

Aram watched the sea. The waves lapped ceaselessly on the beach in torrents. In about just an hour, the moon would defeat the sun in the battle for supremacy of the day. He swore that he saw a pod of orcas exhale before they dived. He could tell that they were most likely male from their tall dorsal fins.
Why was he trapped here? What could he possibly accomplish on this island? Perhaps there was no point. He could, however, try to study the language of the native people. Perhaps he could establish links to other languages and language families? Now perhaps that could be some good that came out of his stranding. However, he knew of the Sentinelese, who resisted any attempt at communication by the Indian authorities. Perhaps these people were much like the Sentinelese.
Thus, as he often did, he began to pace. He talked to himself, an attribute that many were repelled by. He spoke about relations with the language to any other. Could it be Austronesian, thus placing this island in the South Pacific? Could it be Afro-Asiatic, placing the island somewhere off of Somalia? Or yet, it could also be a language isolate. If only he had the GPS from the ship to place any somewhat conclusive hypothesis on its classification.
He then remembered several of his baser instincts. He was hungry. What could he do? He decided on trying to recover what he could from the ship. But it was so far away and Aram was so tired. He dived into the water and swam nary a couple meters before he decided to turn back. At last, he was at the end of his strength. He could do no more than crash on this beach and fall asleep.
