Full Name:
Crow K. Valkairi
Nickname:
Crow

Twenty

Myself
A LITTLE DEEPER,
Alliance:
Straggler
Personality:
Most people like to label this girl as emo, or avoid her because she's self-destructive, thinking that she has way too many problems to even begin to get along with. And they're probably right.
Crow isn't a simple girl. She's depressed, has emotional scars that would put Marilyn Manson to shame, and isn't exactly what you could call stable. Her past has left her so traumatized that there's no way for her to cope other than to simply not to. They say ignorance is bliss, and in her case, it just might be. To forget that she was horribly mauled by something she doesn't even remember, that she watched her first love blow her brains out to save her life, that she slit the throat of the man responsible, or that she was abused by a minion of that same man years later? What more could she ever want? It is this ignorance, this convenient amnesia, that has allowed her to survive for so long.
The inside of Crow's mind is much like a castle. Inside this castle is a labyrinth of hallways, each with heavy metal doors that bolt closed, a safe in every room. In every safe is a memory, each room a situation. Some doors are color-coded, some are simply archways with no real door, and others are chained and locked down tight with no key to open them. When she stumbles upon something she can't cope with, she puts the memory, her feelings on the subject, in a safe, and locks the door to that room. If it is something traumatic, something she can't trust herself to never visit again, she allows the castle-keeper, Nothing, to lock it away. Nothing is an entire entity unto itself, but we'll touch on that later.
Around the castle lay four walls, each going a complete circle around the structure, each a bit farther out than the last. The furthest wall away is a simple wooden fence. Only those who show any sign of positivity are allowed past it. The second wall is a tall privacy fence, though still wooden in material, and blocks one's view beyond. Only those Crows considers true friends are allowed past it. The third wall is made of stone, and rises even higher than the privacy fence. The surface of the rock is smooth, worn from the elements. Only those who have shown themselves to be loyal companions, and hold a piece of her heart, are allowed past. However, the last wall, the one closest to the castle itself, puts all the others to shame. It is tall and thick, built with large slabs of granite on a wide base of obsidian. No matter the pushing or prodding, this wall could never be broken. Only those whom Crow truly loves are allowed past. So far none have managed this far. Not even Wolf.
Now, as I promised, more on Nothing. Nothing is both the groundskeeper and the castle-keeper. He maintains the lawns, the walls, and everything inside the castle. He is both a figment of Crow’s imagination, and an embodiment of her other self. He is cruel, sarcastic, and fond of sins of the flesh. He enjoys causing strife in Crow’s life. However, he knows too well that he wouldn’t exist without her, and will do nothing to put her in harm’s way. Though you’d never get him to admit it, he has a soft spot for her and really does worry about her. Nothing used to--I use the past tense because Crow has forbidden it ever happen again--be able to take over her body and control her like one would a puppet. He could talk using her voice, move using her limbs, and create relationships with others. At first he used to try to push away those she had come to love, trying to ‘keep them from stealing her,' as he puts it. But once he saw the damage it was doing to her and how it risked her life by her own hand, he quickly put an end to it. He has yet to cause problems aside from snide comments every now again, and Crow hopes it will stay that way.
Another thing you should probably know about the girl is that she has a physical disease. She was never told the name of it, however, and knows only that her body doesn't produce protein correctly. To fix this she was put on medication--pills of nearly pure protein that she had to take once a day to keep the balance correct. As a result she was able to gain and hold muscle quickly and easily, and swiftly reached her current state. However, if she was to miss her medication her body would deteriorate, eating her own muscle for the protein it needed, and leave her weak and vulnerable. She contracted this disease from Wolf on their wedding night (things got a bit crazy, if you know what I mean), though the woman had little time to explain the full extent of the illness before they were forced apart. However, through her own experimenting, Crow has found that blood has the same protein that she needs, and she can consume it as a last resort. Unfortunately for others, she's always a bit of a blood fetish, and enjoys the taste as well as the texture. But, being a generally ‘good' person, Crow prefers to eat more meat and eggs than the average person instead of giving in to her fantastic desires to be labeled as a vampire. Not that she could, anyway, as this disease in bloodborne and can only be contracted by swapping blood with her.
Oh, and she's a lesbian.

ON THE OUTSIDE,
[/size]Appearance:
Crow is a slender person, with breasts on the smaller side (though they seem to fit her just perfectly), a naturally muscled abdomen, and light muscle that gives her the look of a teddy bear carrying a gun. Her eyes are blue-grey, and seem to go even more grey in just the right light. Her hair is a dark raven black, naturally highlighted by dark grey in full sun. She has a sunny smile that can really brighten her eyes, and a glare that brews storms. The only thing that is truly odd would be the three horizontal scars over her right eye. They are red and angry, drawing attention like moths to a lamp, seeming to pulse with every heartbeat. It isn’t pretty to look at and Crow makes sure she turns her good side so others aren’t disgusted.
THE PAST,
History:
Crow was born under mysterious circumstances to parents she never knew. She was abandoned on the doorstep of an orphanage on a rainy night, and found by Ruth, one of the orphanage owners. Ruth and her husband, Alexander, raised Crow as best they could, fighting to keep her from getting too attached, but wanting nothing more than call her their own. She never really played with the other kids at the orphanage, preferring to remain alone.
When Crow was ten years old a new girl came to the orphanage. This girl kept to herself, sitting quietly in a corner, her green eyes staring at nothing. Immediately Crow felt drawn to her. The two struck up an odd friendship, and were nearly inseparable. On the night of Crow’s eleventh birthday something tragic happened. What it was, no one could tell you. The last thing Crow remembers is going into the basement of the orphanage at Avril’s request and then waking up to Ruth crying over her and a warm wet feeling on her face. Three large horizontal slashes oozed over her right eye. The doctors couldn’t figure out what caused them, only that they looked like some sort of clawed animal had inflicted them. The wounds healed into ugly scars and took a huge toll on Crow’s self-confidence. From then on she became even more of a recluse, avoiding looking into the eyes of others for fear of seeing the horror in their depths.
A few short years later Avril became mixed up with bad company, and dragged Crow in with her. There’s a long story behind it, but the in the end Avril sacrificed her own life. Crow would never forget the love she had for the girl, her first love, nor the feeling of Andre’s throat slicing clean open as the knife twisted past his neck.
When Crow was old enough to move out of the orphanage (she had attracted very little attention from families who would potentially adopt her, and had scared away--by accident--the one family who tried) she did so and spent a year getting her bearings. She adjusted to apartment life quickly, and landed a job as a waitress at Betty’s Diner. It was there that she ran into some interesting characters and met a good friend or two. However, it wasn’t until she was confronted by a malicious Seth, that she met Wolf.
Life hadn’t been easy since she’d moved out, but it wasn’t terribly difficult to get along. She managed to keep her sanity, and her paranoia, in check, and was proud of the fact. One morning, just like every other, she was caught by surprise as Seth stepped out from the shadows of the garage and put her in a suffocating embrace. She managed to flip out the knife she kept in the waistband of her jeans and cause him a grievous wound on the face, wrestling free from his grip. He mocked her and lunged again, knocking her to the floor. Sitting astride her, he uttered his famous last words before lowering his mouth to her neck. “Andre will thank me for this.” Next thing she knew the weight of the man had been lifted off her chest and she heard the distinct sound of two people fighting. Not daring to look, and already dazed and confused from all the fuss, she got to her feet and ran to hide behind a dumpster, hoping that no one had seen. Then everything went black.
When next she woke, Crow was back in the bed of her apartment, the doors locked and the lights dimmed. She rolled over to find a note, written in beautiful script on what seemed like authentic parchment. “Sorry about last night. Hope you feel better soon. - Wolf” And that was how her love affair with the woman began.
The two had a stormy relationship, though not in a bad way. They were so in love that they failed no notice the dark forces gathering around them. Crow’s lifelong antagonist, Andre, had once again found her out and sought to make her life a hell or end it: whichever came first. With Wolf by her side, Crow struggled against Andre and his ever-growing army of mindless drones. The battle was long as and bloody. Near the end--the end being the time when Crow finally gave up and ran away--Andre finally managed to get close enough to Crow to hurt her. Only it wasn’t Crow he hurt. It was Wolf. The woman, desperate that Crow survive, gave her life without hesitation. A plea for Crow to run, run as fast and as far as she could, and the slamming and bolting of a door. The sound of bodies scuffling on the other side. Silence. Then that horrid cackle.
The cruise was supposed be Crow’s escape from her life. A way to finally relax and forget all the atrocities that had plagued her short existence. It worked quite well. Until the cruise ship sank.
