Luke walked along the forest edge. Emma was back resting for a bit. She'd spent a little too much time out in the sun and now had a headache.
A smile formed on his face. He was wearing a pair of tan shorts and a plain white tee shirt. He wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead and let his blue eyes roam over the forest. He pushed his glasses up onto the bridge of his nose and wondered how people would pass over this lovely place. Sure it was like a paradise, but there were things that Luke missed about being back home. He sighed. He hoped they would get rescued soon, but that didn't look promising.
Luke found a large boulder in the forest and took a seat. He stretched lazily, enjoying the feeling of his body. He hoped Emma was feeling better by the time he got back.
He worried about her of course. She was like his daughter and she came first regardless of what happened to him. Luke yawned. He'd been up most of the night with Emma having nightmares of the accident. She'd wake up sweating and screaming that Luke was dead and she was all alone again. Luke had to spend about a half hour calming her down again. Eventually she dozed off and Luke managed to sleep again.
It was only natural. A month ago, her parents were killed in a crash and now the poor girl was in the midst of a ship wreck. Luke sighed again

Savaii Ah, freedom. I think to myself as I take my first steps out of the village in one whole month. As a time of grievance for my father and I we were aloud one month of no duties to the village. Father has taken this to his utmost advantage. Relaxing and remembering the times when my mother was alive, weaving in and out of the underbrush, a bow in hand, as graceful as a deer. Father told me that most of his favorite memories of her was when they were hunting together, besides of course the day they were joined in marriage.
But I on the other hand, couldn't wait to get back to my normal life. Hunting and fishing, swimming in the streams and ocean for oysters and clams. Being in the woods or ocean was as close as I could get to my mother now. I've been dying to get back into them, but father wouldn't have it. He told me that I was hiding from grieving. I don't need to grieve, mother said that grieving is for those who want their loved one back. But she's in a better place, I don't want her to come back to this place. That would be selfish of me.
A bow slung around my shoulder and a matching quiver of arrows on my person, I take off into the woods. The weather has been perfect. Warm and breezy, just the way I like it. The ocean's scent flooding my nose along with the rich smell of the earth and forest. Dirt, decay and life. What an odd combination for such a lovely smell. The woods form a kind of canopy above my head, the leaves and branches forming together to protect me from the bad storms when they come along. I tread a path that's been worn by my mother and I many times over. It leads to a side of the island practically infested with fish. I'm not out hunting for meat like monkey or deer, just for a swim. But I took my bow just in case of danger or I pass a dinner opportunity just to good to pass up.
I finally come to the spot. The white sands looking like solid clouds, or fine powder. I take a step onto the soft ground. I shudder at it's feeling. So warm. I turn my head to the left-All's clear... -I turn my head to the right- Not clear. I feel my face drop at the site of this person. He's not a person from the village, his skin is too pale. He sits on a boulder about ten yards from the shore. He looked as though he had had quite an ordeal, dirty pants and shirt, even his face you could see stress on his features. Weird things set on his nose, they looked like thin pieces of rock in two circles and they attached to his ears by sticks.
This person could be a danger to the village. He could be here to kill us all. I don't know what he has on him, a knife maybe or a spear, so it's best to keep my distance. I can't just turn tail and flee back to the village with a tale of a white man sitting on a rock. They'll say I was out in the sun too long, or she's just telling a story. I have to confront the man now.
I grab an arrow from the quiver right below the feathers, unhook my bow from my shoulder, engage the arrow with the string and get my two fingers set in place. One above and one below the arrow notch. I take a deep breath, pull back the string, turn and aim it at the man.
"Who are you?!" I shout. Forget nice greetings, I mean business. The man doesn't reply. "Who are you?!" I can feel my eye brows scrunching in anger. Is he deaf? I take a few steps closer, "Why are you here?" I spit.

Luke looked up as a young girl approached him with a bow and quiver. Luke immediately jumped up, holding his hands up in a defensive position.
"Whoa. I'm Luke. I washed up on shore with some of the others after the accident" Luke said slowly and gently, making sure his movements wouldn't startle the young girl. "I mean you no harm"
he said keeping his blue eyes locked on the young girl.
"Me and my niece are stragglers" he explained. "She's about your age and down the beach more"
Luke studied her. She was probably an islander who hadn't bumped into some of the survivors of the crash.
"What's your name?" he continued in the same soft tone making sure he kept eye contact the entire time. Luke pulled off his glasses and tucked them into his pocket.
He tilted his head curiously as he waited for the young girl to respond. Luke wouldn't want to hurt her but he would defend himself if she attacked. Of course he would probably be gentle but firm, but seeing a bow and arrow was not something he could defend himself against so easily. So he kept his posture light and friendly, hoping she would relax a bit and see that he was no threat to her

Savaii The man jumped, startled, and held up is hands, palms facing me. This is something that a person who was cornered would do. He had no escape, and therefore, he had no weapon. "Whoa. I'm Luke. I washed up on shore with some of the others after the accident" He said. His voice and words were kind, easing some of my hostility. "I mean you no harm" Of course you don't. I've got your life in my hands.
"Me and my niece are stragglers" he explained. "She's about your age and down the beach more. What's your name?" This is the first time I've heard about an accident. We've all seen the shiny things far in the water, loud sounds emanating from them at times. But never had any humans washed up on shore. And he said there were more of them.
I lowered my bow a bit, relaxing the string so that I'm just holding the whole bow by it's string. "I'm Savaii." I said cautiously. I couldn't give the man to much information. There's no telling what he's capable of. "You said there were more people," I said. "How many more and when will we expect them?" I fold my arms across my chest waiting for his answer.
Word Count~209...welp...revision tomorrow then! Muse~Hm...not sure. XD Notes~Definitely revising tomorrow. -nods-
