The best part about being the leader of something was that you got to take things into your hands and actually get to control the outcome. That was something that Chance loved the most about being the tribe leader of the Western Key. It had been an easy choice to elect him as the leader and now that things were official, it was probably time to have a tribe meeting. That way he could see who all he had to work with and different jobs and positions could be assigned. The sun had just about set and Chance had informed everyone that the meeting would be right at sunset that evening so hopefully everyone would be there. A small fire was already burning in the fire pit that sat in the middle of the Western Key camp and Chance was standing in front of it, his light blue eyes illuminated by the flames as he stared down into them.
His thoughts were lost and wandering as he watched the flames licking at the wood. His mind was playing through the shipwreck over and over again. It had easily become one of the worst memories he had ever experienced. But the worst thing was, he was truly alone out here. His only family was his father who was probably too busy running his multi million dollar cooperation to notice that his son hadn't come home from the cruise his father had given him to send him away and keep him out of trouble for a little while. Furrowing his eyebrows at the thought of his father, anger started to boil up in his belly but when he heard the first couple of people starting to arrive at the meeting he forced his expression to smooth out and pushed the thoughts and anger away. He could deal with that another time. Right now, he needed to show his tribe mates that he would be a good leader and would be able to keep them alive. Thank god for boyscouts and Bear Grylls show, Man vs. Wild.

can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?

No, this wasn't how she expected to be spending her "days of relaxation" her dad had been promising her. After two days at sea, baking in the sun and dying of thirst, she had made it to land. There were others there, thank God. It had worried her at first that she would be all alone, but then passed that thought off as absurd. How could she be the only survivor out of all the people on the ship? Highly unlikely. Being one of the first to get here was nice. She was able to get a lay of the land before the politics of a group came into play. Now they needed a leader? She hated the thought of picking some random dude to rule over everyone and make big decisions. But who was she to judge? Maybe this guy really knew his stuff.
Stella had never been more glad her dad had taught her all those skills, like hunting, fishing, outdoor living, ect. They sure came in handy when you're trapped on a deserted island.
After they "voted" on their leader, Chance set up a time to meet by the fire. She had a few hours, and she was starving. Fishing sounded nice. Stella took the few hours she had, made a fishing pole out of some bamboo, caught some fish in a tiny stream, and took some much needed relax time. Four nice sized fish was pretty good for the two and a half hours she spent at the stream. It wasn't her best, but it was enough. She figured she could get some brownie points with the new "leader" if she brought something to eat.
Stella spotted the smoke in the distance and headed towards it, fish in hand. The sun was sinking over the horizon by the time she got there, she held up the fish to Chance. "I brought dinner." She said, setting them down and sitting down in the sand. They hadn't been gutted yet, but that could wait. She wanted to talk to the guy who would be making the decisions.

Chance raised his light blue gaze when the sound of footsteps coming towards him caught his attention. A smile instantly lit his face as he saw a pretty young woman stroll over to the fire he had going and set down a string of four nice sized fish. Well she was already proving to be a productive member of the tribe and he was glad to have her. His smile remained on his face as she spoke and set the fish down near the fire.
"Well done! Stella, isn't it?" he replied, reaching to his side and pulling his sharp knife out of the sheath before he set to work gutting the fish. They might as well get them ready to cook up so they would be done cooking by the time the meeting was over. As he expertly sliced off their heads, cut them into sections and then skinned them, his light blue eyes flickered up to look at as he waited for her confirm that her name was Stella. He had only gotten a chance to briefly meet everyone and there were new members every day so he was trying to make a point of getting to know each person the best he could.
This meeting in particular was very important because he was planning on assigning jobs to each member so that everyone would be clear on what they were to do and that way people could play off of their strengths and get the job they were best at doing and enjoyed. Chance continued to work on the fish for a bit longer, repeating the process with each one and waiting for her to speak before he spoke once more.

The sun was setting, turning the sky blood red and orange. Blood. I closed my eyes as the thought of Marco, a hole on the side of his head and bleeding, forced it's way into the center stage of my brain. I'm sorry, man. I shook my head, thinking of the dead wasn't a good way to start of the second night since my arrival here. I had been walking around when I found this little "tribe", if you could call it that, of people on this island. They call it the Western Key, pretty cool name. I stuck my hand in my pocket, searching for my cigarettes and find them I do. I pull out the pack and search inside it. Two left and their damp. I stick one above each ear, tucking them under the little lengths of hair, hoping that they'll dry, and make my way to the camp's fire.
Chance, the new boss, called for a meeting tonight at sunset. I don't know what I think about Chance yet. He seems like he'd be a good leader, but after what we'd been through it's the least worry on my mind. How are we going to get back home? What will we eat? What will we drink? I know from survival books and such that we'll only last a few days without water, suffering from the uncomfortable side affects of dehydration. Of course we could always resort to the liquid in coconuts and such.
I walk across the sand, it's plain surface looking like an empty canvas waiting to be painted, or a sheet of paper waiting for the hand of a writer to etch it's surface with words that can only be understood with the mind. The fire is just in site, Chance and a woman are standing around it, he's gutting a fish looking up at her. I walk up to them and hold out a hand to the woman, trying to be the friendly one first. "Hello, I'm Felix." I'll wait until Chance is done cleaning the fish before I offer my hand. Muse~ Okay. Comments~ First post with Felix!! Words~348...what is it with 340's and my posts? O.o

Everyone felt the same way about compliments, but not everyone showed the same emotions. She grabbed her pocket knife out of her pocket and picked up a fish, quickly slicing it open and gutting it. She nodded, "And of corse you're Chance. Congrats on leader, haven't really got to personally congratulate you yet personally." She glanced over to see he had already gutted his first fish and moving on to another. "Seems like you've gutted a fish before. Weird, useless things suddenly become useful when you're deserted on an island, huh?" She said lightly, smiling slightly to herself. She was about to slice the fish into skinny slices to be smoked, then it could be eaten later on. But everyone was hungry, so she filleted it and set the pieces aside on a rock to her left.
It suddenly occurred to her how ironic his name was. Chance, think of the huge chance they were taking by putting a stranger in charge. She almost laughed out loud, but instead kept it to herself. Her smile just grew, but quickly went back to normal.
Her eyes flicked towards the faint sound of someone coming. He seemed familiar enough, he was one of the four that washed up two days ago. She looked up at him, meeting his eyes and smiling. "Hi." She paused to put down her knife, "Sorry for the fish hands. Stella." She shook his hand anyway. "Nice to meet you."
She realized one of the things they were missing to cook the fish, sticks. "I'll be right back, I'm gonna go grab some branches to cook the fish." Stella stood up, she looked at Chance and brushed the sand off her pants. It probably wasn't the brightest idea to go wondering off into the darkening forest to look for a brach, but she was sure she could take care of herself.

Chance dealt with the fish rather quickly and expertly, slicing up three of them while Stella took care of the fourth. As he set them aside, waiting to be cooked before they were eaten, her words reached him and he smiled when she congratulated him. She was probably the first to say so too. But he wasn't sure if congratulations were what he needed, maybe good luck would be better. After all, it wasn't an easy task to have to be in charge of keeping alive strangers he barely knew and make sure they didn't kill each other in the process. They also had to work together to make sure they lived till tomorrow on an island they had never experienced before. So being leader was definitely more of a challenge than a reward but Chance was a natural born leader and knew how to rally people together and keep things in order as well as survive. All of those would help him in this case as well.
"Thanks. I just hope I don't mess up." he replied, verbalizing one of his main concerns for the first time. He wasn't normally one to show much, if any weakness in front of others so it was kind of a big deal for him to express such things to Stella but he hoped it wouldn't make her think less of him or have doubt in him either.
When Stella spoke once more, commenting that he looked like he had skinned and gutted a fish before he chuckled and nodded in reply before rising to his feet and cleaning his knife off before putting it back in the sheath at his waist.
"Yeah, funny how random skills can actually end up being useful when you're stranded on an island." he added, a smile remaining on his face as he wiped his hands off as well. He was wearing a simple pair of board shorts and a torn up t shirt that he had retained from the ship wreck. When another man came towards them and introduced himself before shaking Stella's hand, he smiled at the man named Felix.
"Hey there Felix, I'm Chance." he greeted the newcomer as well, reaching out his hand to shake Felix's as well. Before he could say anything else, Stella spoke up once more, stating that she was going to go get some branches for them to use to cook the fish.
"Would you like me to come with you?" he asked Stella, not wanting to make her think he was underestimating her by thinking she wasn't able to go into the jungle and get the branches on her own. He would rather give her the option that way she could be the one to make the decision without hurting anyone's feelings.
